Consultancy on BBC 2.0

The BBC has begun an overhaul of its web offering, in a pan-organisation project named BBC 2.0. Matt worked with BBC Nations & Regions and the project team to assist with early strategy and provide feedback.

Background

The BBC‘s web offering, though expansive, has grown organically over a decade and its limits are now being felt in the ability to easily create new websites, more in keeping with the modern web. To modernise, reinvigorate bbc.co.uk, and make possible the social underpinnings of Web 2.0, new infrastructure is required, and new products are being developed.

The BBC 2.0 project, announced in early 2006, is this major overhaul.

Involvement

Early in the project, there was a need for the various sections of the BBC to propose a “dream” strategy, to help set their course through the upcoming project.

Over three weeks, Matt worked with proposals from various new media groups and conducted interviews vertically through the department (from journalists and designers to strategists) to derive a set of product proposals for the next generation web offering. Focused on the concept of local, this new strategy and product document was turned into an illustrated presentation for communication.

Subsequent to this involvement, Matt has given advice and feedback through workshop participation.
